Themes and Variations
Iconographic Concepts for Photo Shoots
We decided to develop the project "Themes and Variations" after visiting Henri Matisse's exhibition in Turin. We both have been fans of Matisse for a long time, so we are pretty familiar with his way of transforming the representation of reality into the simple and flattened forms technique by using pure primitive colours.
However, this one time we were both impressed by a series of very simple sketches of a bouquet in a Tabac Royal tin. Among the several sketches, he was trying to see this object from different distance and slightly different points of view. It’s a subtle but very fun experiment, which made us want to do the same thing in our way by using photography.
